Service Overview

The repaired pipeline is a 24’’ diameter pipe line conveying gas from Warri to Escravos. The leak points were located at Batan and Madagho (kpokpo) Communities. The damaged section of the first point was cut out and a spool of 12.7m (1cwc pipe) was welded, Ultrasonic Tested-ok, wrapped, concrete doped and tied-in to the existing line while the leak point at Madagho (kpokpo), a total of 3CWC pipes were welded and ties in to the existing lines certified ok, wrapped, concrete doped, lowered back filled.

NGPTC team must be emulated for their friendly disposition all through the period even in times of discrepancy. NGPTC monitoring team should be highly commended for their time, effort and sacrifices to monitor all the stages of the job irrespective of weather conditions and made meaningful contributions at each stage. NGPTC should also be commended for properly flushing the line for repairs to avoid incidences and emergencies. Client should ensure that the right drawings for a facility is available to the contractor before moving to site in other not to temper with other ground facilities. There should be provision for timber mat for personnel’s and equipments to gain access to site in the event of high or low tide.

The sectional replacement projects were executed in the sequence as stated below:

  1. Mobilization of personnel and equipments from our base office at Enerhen Road to site
  2. Survey and flagging off of life line and pegging of gas line and other existing underground facilities
  3. Site Preparation for equipment off loading at possible closest point to site of operation
  4. Access route creation and preparation for transportation of materials and equipments from point of off load to exact spots of operations
  5. Slinging and lifting of Pipes, by Crane to A-Frames, and transportation of Welding Machines via marine work basin, etc, from barge with A-Frame, for onward pull by Swamp Buggies to leak spots
  6. Excavation of 24” line 500m upstream and 500meters downstream and floatation of 4 A-frames in-between pipes at equal-distant positions for even pipe lifts (centralizing the leak point) and positioning of work basin and compressor
  7. Installation of the pipe cold cutter at the appropriate spot and angle for straight cuts
  8. Removal of the cut section of leak points and fitting and replacement of new Concrete Coated Pipes
  9. Welding of spools of 1 and 3pipes respectively
  10. UT, wrapping and concrete doping of all welded joints
  11. Tie-in of new spool to exiting line
  12. Lowering and Backfilling of newly installed pipe spool section
  13. Demobilization of equipment and personnel from site
